The Belly Dance Chronicles Oct/Nov/Dec 2020 Volume 18, Issue 4 | Page 76

The first chapter is a great reminder of beginner techniques including posture , placement of weight , and breath . The moves and steps are introduced with simple names that describe how your body moves along with their traditional names so that you can connect the two . Each move includes a detailed description of how to move your body along with tips and diagrams where appropriate . Some of the moves include ways to expand the move and make it more challenging .
The last chapter focuses on the structure of a class and what moves and steps should be introduced in the first and second year of instruction . While this chapter is shorter , there are many notes throughout the book that describe how the author introduces each area of the body and the sequence of how she adds new moves . Also sprinkled in are anecdotes of how she adds humor to her classes and tips on how to help students with more changing movements .
I would recommend this book specifically for new dancers who learn well from books , experienced dancers that want to brush up on their foundational movements , and those who are ready to take the step of becoming an instructor , but need a little guidance to ease their way .
