Leadership is not just cheerleading .
Great leaders are listeners and great communicators . But cheerleading is not the only or most important role for a great leader . Communicating is a process that focuses on continuous improvement . Great leaders share the direction they want to go ; then , they focus on , “ How can we do it together ? How can I help ?” Effective communication demands clarity , consistency , and repetition for those who need to experience the messages differently ( tell them , show them , share it together – to get to mutual understanding ). Leaders stay the course in words and actions – in both verbal and nonverbal actions . People will hear you by watching what you say , do , and how they feel about your commitment to what you say .
In summary , when a dance instructor and troupe leader creates an ethic , goals for successful creativity and performance , then people will want to commit and devote themselves to being a part of something valuable and beautiful . It is my hope that dance instructors as leaders find this information helpful in creating optimal situations for learning and supportive environments for developing beautiful professional dance performances .
