male essence of Bert Balladine, there is really no one else like him! In this performance, there was definitely a flamenco influence as well, fully integrated into his expression. He drew us all in without a doubt. And he is so musical. His cymbal playing is just perfect. It enhances every aspect of his show. As a teacher, Aziz is kind, thorough, and so knowledgeable. He gave us wonderful material with such clarity; material that we are continuing to practice. To be around this fine human being with his thoughtful mind and gentle heart was a joy. Silvia Salamanca Silvia Salamanca! As a performer, she is compelling - you can’t take your eyes off her. She captivated the audience with the dazzling virtuosity of her double sword dance. In her various pieces, she has such a range of expression, from sensitive artist to courageous warrior. She embodies aspects of the yogini, the flamenca, the belly dancer, the performance artist, the entertainer, and the sorceress. It is fascinating to see her dance, rich with layers of meaning and intention, as well as the sheer pleasure of the dancing itself. As a teacher, she presents wonderful material that is so useful for later practice. She is clear and organized, and very funny. Amaya! A legendary dancer who has contributed so much to our art form! As a performer, she is charismatic and dynamic; you never know what she will do! She is such an interesting artist, so theatrical, and at the same time completely spontaneous and relaxed. On stage she is dramatic and fiery, and yet also down-to-earth and real. She is soulful and mysterious, and then flashes of her incredible sense of humor come out (not to mention the LED fanveils!). A wonderful performer, Amaya is an original source for all of us! As a teacher and mentor, Amaya has a wealth of experience and deep insight about the art of performing and many other aspects of the dance, as well as great dance, healing wisdom, amazing stories, and humor! Ma*Shuqa flew onto the stage in her Isis wings, like an exotic bird. Her joyfulness, her musicality and her spectacular costume and makeup charmed the audience as always! Visually spectacular and so enjoyable to watch! She has so much knowledge of music and dance, with that joy always shining through.
