Photo by Brian Rice bikini level of bodybuilding embraced that. A competition was scheduled in Chicago on April 16. It put a date on my goal. I focused on training and engaged a coach for a diet to slim down to the degree it takes to be a part of a bodybuilding show. I calculated the risks and the courage it would take to do this. And yes, there were plenty of naysayers who tried to discourage me. My willpower did not waiver, and after 14 weeks of effort, I found myself stepping onto the stage in the Grand Masters Bikini division of the Professional Natural Bodybuilding Association. That night I won First Place! I was so proud to be a part of a show that valued health, fitness and beauty in women of all ages, from 19 to 71! Since this show, a discussion group has formed on Facebook to get advice about all that I learned from this experience, women and fellow dancers who want help with their motivation, workouts, and self-image. I am thrilled to be such an inspiration to others. You are the sum of all of your experiences. Make your journey exciting. Promise to value your unique self. Dance through your life in such a way that when you look back on your journey, you will feel no regrets. Strive to be fearlessly authentic!
