ADDI’S HOME
At long last, we arrived at Addi’s home in Mezguida. It was quite beautiful
and palatial. All of us were so very tired from a long day of travel and
sightseeing. After going to our assigned rooms, we toured the house a bit.
I explored the rooftop where I looked down upon an ocean of date palms
gleaming in the moonlight. A herd of sheep or goats below were being fed.
Addi told us how he supports his extended family here. I realized they had
built bathrooms onto our rooms, converting it into a guest house. What a
clever move! These accommodations were beautifully decorated with floor,
wall and ceiling intricate tile work. Corner lamps played light designs on
the ceiling. The ultimate detail…the distant haunting call to prayer while a
full moon rose on the horizon.
Addi showed us rows and rows of handmade adobe bricks out in back of
his home in anticipation of adding more rooms to his compound. Later
the following morning, we went on a walking tour of the village that Addi
grew up in. Adorable kids started following us–probably because of the bag
of chocolates I had with me. They giggled as they held out not one but two
hands for their treats.
