The Bell Nucleus 2017-2018 BN Jan 2018 Issue | Page 2

It’s that time of year. Right after that long winter break, after that first exciting semester of high school for freshmen or that round of college admissions for seniors, it’s a time for something new. Whether it’s a new hobby you’d like to pick up or a resolution to implement in your life, the new year is a perfect opportunity to settle in and make those changes count. As editor of the Bell Nucleus Science Journal, change is something we embrace. Regarding this current issue’s topic, we believe that, beyond enhancements of current technologies or improvements to issues in the status quo, the advancement of civilization lies beyond our world: in space. Here, we can find new opportunities to ease our population burdens and discover new resources to sustain humanity for centuries. Thus, we hope to capture the current efforts to travel to space and also the impacts of those efforts. In addition, the Bell Nucleus staff, composed of dedicated and passionate students, looks forward to sharing with you all the new developments happening in the scientific community. That is why we are introducing an additional publication called Bell Nucleus Pods, an email newsletter that will condense any interesting science news into short sections and will be sent out every two weeks. In doing so, we hope to excite your passion for STEM or at least keep you updated on the latest information. Enjoy the issue, Andrew Tran ‘19 2 | THE BELL NUCLEUS
