#4 Aestheticians are the first to know and offer the latest skincare treatments and practices. New and shocking beauty treatments are actually old news to aestheticians (think Samantha’s chemical peel in Season 5 of Sex and the City, or Kim Kardashian’s bloody vampire facial in 2013). The fact is, skin experts are discovering new advancements with skincare every day, and aestheticians are among the first to know about them and include them in their menu of services.

James, who has performed countless procedures using micro-needling, or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), shares why it has long been one of her favorite treatments and why it works so well. “By causing micro ‘injuries’ to the skin, new skin rapidly emerges...CIT gives overall skin rejuvenation.” She uses stem cells and epidermal growth factors with the needles to treat fine lines, loose skin, hyperpigmentation, post acne discoloration, and more.

As exciting as the treatment is, James warns against purchasing at-home micro-needling rollers that are sold online. “The depth of the needles depends on your pressure and, if done incorrectly, you can cause micro tears and enlarged pores.” It’s best to leave intense procedures to the professionals as they will have the most updated technology and the professional ingredients to use on the needles.

#5 You could clear skin and prevent signs of aging easier than you thought. Another favorite treatment of James’ is to use radio frequency and LED lights in combination with CIT. “Radio Frequency has been clinically proven to aid in the production of elastin, which keeps our skin lifted and tight,” she says, “I use it on clients who fear growing jowls or developing a ‘turkey neck.’ LED light treatments has a myriad of benefits from collagen production, to reducing acne, to treating hyperpigmentation.” Procedures such as this one simply can’t be found anyplace but in an aesthetician’s.

The bottom line? Don’t expect a quick fix. Skin improvement is an investment and there is no “magic treatment” that will transform skin overnight. Find an aesthetician you trust, and you’re sure to see long-lasting results over time.
