We salute Weberding
Carving Shop, Inc. as they
celebrate 75 years in business!
Today the shop is involved in
wood carving, custom-made
furniture, statue refurbishing,
wood patterns and church
furnishings. The artisans have
created projects for organiza-
tions and private individuals,
including celebrities through-
out the United States. The
Weberding brothers and their
families hosted an open house
in June to mark the milestone.
Congratulations to Bates-
ville’s Al Geis, who is a
member of the Cincinnati-
based Southern Gateway
Chorus that
placed
thirteenth
out of thirty
choral groups
in an inter-
national
barbershop-
style compe-
tition held in
Al Geis
Las Vegas in
July. The vocalist is a longtime
downtown retailer and a baritone
voice in the 55-member chorus
that sang 5-foot 2 and Mem-
ories for the competition.
Thank You to Batesville
High School graduate Anna
Sing, who volunteered to design
a mural for the BHS cafeteria.
Art teacher Mary K Cambron
served as project advisor.
Members of the Batesville
Area Historical Society

Hats off to the Matthew
19:26 Mission Team who trav-
eled to Wilmington, NC in June
to make a difference in the lives
of residents facing financial
challenges. Though it was hot
and humid, the talented volun-
teers completed many home
repairs and improvements.
Next up is a trip to Chatta-
nooga, TN, June 17-23, 2018.
Those high school age or older
are welcome to participate. An
informational meeting will be
held Sunday, Aug. 27, at 3:00
p.m. at the Batesville Knights
of St. John Hall.
On a personal note, it was
great visiting relatives at the
Riehle Reunion on July 16
at the Sunman Fish & Game
Club. Approximately two
hundred descendants of the late
Nicholas and Mary (Schnei-
der) Riehle gathered for a re-
union that began in 1940 on my
grandparents, the late Martin
and Teresa (Riehle) Prickel’s
farm. Over seventy-five years
later the annual gathering con-
tinues – with much apprecia-
tion to Ralph Riehle, Melvin
Schutte, Harry Laker, Jim
William Weberding, father of
Bill “Buzz’, Terry and Tim,
established the company in
1942.
Berger, Norma Berger New-
ton and Becky Sapp Haessig
who plan the event and prepare
great fried chicken!
That’s Sue’s news for now.
