The team competed very well throughout the team dual aspect of the camp . The team was able to finish seventh out of 24 teams competing at the high school level in the camp . The matches were invaluable competition in the summer months to prepare for the coming scholastic season .
Another aspect of the camp was to build team camaraderie while staying at the camp . Besides the team duals , the wrestlers also had time each evening to bowl , play puttputt , and catch a movie in addition to bonding closer simply by spending time together .
While attending the ISI Team Camp , these wrestlers were able to take in instruction and to meet some of the best wrestlers in the country as well as the world . The event clinicians were highlighted by NCAA , Olympic , and World champion Kyle Snyder . He is one of the most elite wrestlers in the world at only 21 years of age .

Aurora Little League Advances to District Semi-final
The Aurora Little League 12U District Team recently completed their season by advancing to the semi-finals of the District 6 Championships . The team competed in five games over the course of ten days at the beginning of July .
The tournament began with a tough loss to New Castle on July 1 only to see the team come back with three consecutive wins to continue to advance . The wins began with an impressive 18-0 win over White River .
Following that game on July 3 , the team would have to play three games in three days from July 8-10 . They first traveled to Brooklyn ( Indiana , not New York ) on July 8 to defeat a Cambridge City team 7-6 in extra innings .
The next day the team then made the trek to Cambridge City to play Hagerstown . The Aurora team continued to advance in the tournament with a 5-2 win that day .
SAY Soccer Celebrates 50 Years of Kids Having Fun
The City of Lawrenceburg recently hosted the Soccer Association for Youth , USA ( SAY Soccer ) during its two-day event to celebrate 50 years of supporting and growing soccer across the United States .
The organization , which began in 1967 with the vision of eight gentlemen , held the event on July 14 and 15 with the Neil Bradford Memorial 5K Fun Run for Red Card Cancer , a 3v3 soccer tournament , a golf outing , and a concluding banquet . It was the celebration of an organization that has brought soccer to over 3.5 million children in its 50 years of existence .
Several founding members of the organization were also able to attend the banquet as honored guests . These individuals set out 50 years ago to bring soccer to many communities in the area where children were not necessarily afforded the opportunity for American football or basketball as well as other communities where it could provide youth a thriving outlet .
According to Doug Wood , Executive Director , “ SAY has always made a point to be inclusive for all children interested in the game of soccer , whether it was being one of the first organizations to offer leagues for girls , to bringing soccer to area high schools where SAY had youth leagues or continuing to have a non-discriminatory policy we hold to heart , we plan to continue to be on the forefront of recreational youth soccer and expand on educational opportunities as we move forward .”
Certainly many throughout Southeastern Indiana have enjoyed and probably participated in the benefits of SAY Soccer through their youth . One of our own residents , Bob Sommer , was a referee for years for the organization . He also filled the role of president for SAY Soccer in 2008 . It is a great organization
Aurora Little League 12U District team included back row : Nathan Ullrich , Andrew Shuter , Arynn Kunkel , Josh Murray , Braden Foist , Evan Lohmiller , Logan Heeke . Front row : Kadence Taylor , Adam Kunkel , Jacob Post , Grant Holloway , Timmy Hill , Trevor Jackson .
that continues to provide for communities not only in this area but in many communities across the country .
An organization that first brought soccer into many communities and even introduced it to many people as a sport 50 years ago continues to look to its future . “ We are excited to celebrate 50 years of KIDS HAVING FUN and look forward to serving our communities for another 50 years ,” said Wood .

Officiating Made Easy-Consider the Avocation to Enhance Sports
For many who attend sporting events , we do not take the time to recognize nor acknowledge a very important necessity of almost all sporting events-the officials . Perhaps if you do acknowledge them , it is because they have made a controversial call or a call you did not agree with .
Regardless of this , the reality is that a shortage of officials in all sports is making it increasingly difficult to staff games and competitions in all levels of sports , especially high school and youth sports . As youth sports numbers continue to increase and numbers of games does the same , getting licensed and qualified officials becomes more problematic . A true need exists to involve many new and younger people into the ranks of officials and there are easy ways to become involved .
If you are an avid sports fan and enjoy watching the development of the sport , or if you are someone who enjoys the pure essence of competition , officiating is an excellent outlet to stay involved in the growth of the sport , give back , and share in its excitement .
Personally , my first foray into officiating came as a USA Swimming official , a sport in which I have never participated . The need existed for local officials while my daughter was participating , so I gladly signed up to help out .
The training was excellent , and I felt myself a fair official after being certified . Granted , it is still difficult to raise my hand to disqualify a six or eight-year old who is just learning the strokes , but you simply perform the need .
The Indiana High School Athletic Association ( IH- SAA ) provides all of the information for new or renewing officials at the high school level in all sports . Local officials associations also do a solid job of providing direction to needs and training for newer officials .
As I have slowly gotten out of many of my coaching positions , I have become licensed in several sports and am progressively looking for chances to expand my opportunities with officiating .
As a coach , I have certainly had my disagreements with officials over calls many times , but I do seek them out after competitions and thank them for their time and dedication to the sport . Without them , I could not enjoy the benefits of coaching myself .
If you are a youth or scholastic coach , make an effort to teach the rules of the game along with the skills . Speak highly of game officials , and encourage your players to consider that upon graduation or even before . No matter your age or current level of involvement with a sport , a willingness to become licensed and give back to youth through this avocation is one that can be truly rewarding .
Opportunities exist at the lower levels in scholastic sports to " cut your teeth " with your skills .
Go to www . ihsaa . org and click on the " Officials " tab at the top of the page for more specific information on testing and licensing . Contact local youth league directors or high school athletic directors to let them know of your availability .
