DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System . The DAISY Foundation recognizes nurses around the world for outstanding care and dedication to their patients .
The daughter of the patient ’ s family wrote the following message in her DAISY nomination form . “ My dad suffered a cardiac event , and Holly was very calm , caring and attentive to his needs and handled the situation with complete control . We were very thankful to have someone in charge with her years of experience and knowledge . We felt comforted knowing she was taking care of our dad and making sure he had every opportunity for recovery . Holly was more than accommodating to the family as well . A huge ‘ thank you ’ to Holly for all she did that evening during my dad ’ s scary event .”
Miss Fehr was honored at a ceremony at Highpoint Health in which her co-workers ; her 4-year-old daughter , Nora ; her mother , Jenny Awad ; and her fiancé , Scott Karn , all attended . DCF Grant Helps Church Restore Flood-Damaged Lower Level
The Dearborn Community Foundation ( DCF ), Inc . recently awarded a $ 1,000 Lauren Hill Make A Difference Grant to the Aurora First United Methodist Church , 304 Third Street , Aurora , to help restore its flood-damaged basement kitchen , which is used for numerous charitable community activities .
Mr . Race and Judy , his wife of fifty years , are natives of Dillsboro . He recalled hayrides and heading to Friendship where his dad played music most Saturday nights when he was a child .
Mr . Race has the heart for helping others . After serving four years in the Navy , he earned his teaching degree , returned to Dillsboro , and spent ten years teaching at South Dearborn Schools . While he genuinely enjoyed working with the students and teachers , Mr . Race realized that he did not want to be a teacher for the remainder of his career .
Utilizing the education opportunity under the GI Bill , Mr . Race continued to take college classes . He discovered a love for business and accounting classes and took every course he could . At the same time , he also worked as the Dillsboro Manor administrator . In his spare time , he began preparing tax returns . Mr . Race continued his journey and became a CPA . He opened his office in 1994 , the same year in which he was asked to become a Friendship State Bank Director .
“ There was a lot more to being a director than I expected ,” Mr . Race shared .
John Race realized that

What Can The Chamber Do For You ? Just Ask !

812-537-0814 www . dearborncountychamber . org banking was much more complex than it looked from the outside , but he is very proud of the accomplishments of the bank and the board over the past twenty-five years . He believes some of the most important work the board of directors did was to establish a human resources department , create a system for evaluating performance , make significant pay increases for staff , and ensure the employment of quality people who provide quality work and results .
“ I will certainly miss John ’ s perspective at our board meetings ,” said CEO Chris Meyer . “ John can be feisty during a debate , which is a terrific skill to have . He challenges ideas and decisions in such a way that a better result is the outcome .” Mr . Meyer added , “ John ’ s wisdom , experience , and high character made him a terrific steward of our board ideals , and he represented the shareholders well .”
“ John , with his business experience and accounting expertise , was a terrific addition to our board ,” said Jim Lemon , Friendship State Bank President . “ His guidance will be sorely missed .”
Mr . Race can still be found hard at work and focused on his CPA business . His passion for his work as a CPA and for helping others is undeniable .
“ I don ’ t understand why people don ’ t like Mondays ,” Mr . Race once said . “ After sitting around all day Sunday , I can ’ t wait for Monday ! ... I enjoy meeting people and helping them get out of financial scrapes when they get in trouble . It is rewarding to help others get back on track .”
At the 2018 Shareholders Annual Meeting , Chris Meyer was elected to serve on the board as the next director .
Common Financial Mistakes
A Five-Part Series on Common Financial Mistakes Made by Pre-Retirees & Retirees
PART ONE : INCOME
Throughout the course of my 30 + year career , I have seen pre-retirees and retirees make the same common financial mistakes . These common mistakes are made as they are entering retirement or they are already retired . This is the time in life when you need to avoid as much risk and error as possible ! It is my hope that as you read this series , you gain a better understanding of how to plan for retirement and how to avoid the top 5 common financial mistakes . This knowledge will help guide you towards a mistake free plan for retirement .
Common Mistake # 1 : No Plan
Benjamin Franklin is credited with the famous quote , “ Failing to plan is planning to fail .” 1 The number one mistake I see people make when it comes to retirement
planning is not having a plan which focuses on INCOME . Often times , I have found that people spend more time planning a week ’ s vacation than they do planning for the 30 years they will spend in retirement , it ’ s baffling to me .
I am a firm believer in having a written Retirement Income Plan . In making this plan , you will receive answers to the following very important questions :
n How much do I need monthly to maintain my standard of living in retirement ?
n What accounts am I going to take this money from ? n Will I outlive my money ?
n What is the best way for me to take my pension or social security ?
n What happens if my spouse predeceases me ? n Where does my money go when I die ?
“ By writing a plan with a financial professional , pitfalls can be identified , and you will have a plan in place to help avoid them .” — Roger Ford
Retirement is not the period in your life to navigate blindly by yourself . I highly suggest that all pre-retirees have a financial planning professional help them write a plan . By writing a plan with a financial professional , pitfalls can be identified , and you will have a plan in place to help avoid them . The financial plan can also prepare for unexpected surprises . Most importantly , a written plan can help provide peace of mind , something I have found hard to put a price on during my thirty-two years of experience .
