( 25.89 ). Grimm ’ s 200 M performance set a new conference record by over two tenths . She broke the record of Lawrenceburg ’ s Margina Cross , which had stood since 1989 . Audrey Griffin won the 100 Hurdles in 15.85 , and Abby Bitner , who will continue her running career next year for the IU East Red Wolves , captured her third title of the night in the 800 Run ( 2:24.15 ) to propel the Lady Trojans with 7 event wins of 16 events .
Other area event winners in the girls ’ meet were Batesville senior Haylee Harmeyer , who will run for the Purple Aces of Evansville next season , in the 400 Meter Dash in 1:01.02 . South Dearborn sophomore Eva Quinlan captured both the 300 Meter Hurdle title in a time of 46:05 as well as the high jump by clearing 5 ’ 1 ”. Frankin County ’ s Anna Schatzle cleared 10 ’ to win the pole vault .

The boys ’ meet proved to be a close one with East Central finishing ahead of Franklin County 125-116 followed by Rushville at 101 . Lawrenceburg ( 84 ), Batesville ( 70 ), South Dearborn ( 45 ), Connersville ( 42 ), and Greensburg ( 39 ) wrapped up the boys ’ scoring .
In winning the title , the Trojans were led by an event win from Malachi Studer in the high jump , clearing 6 ’ 2 ”. Teammate and fellow senior , Cody Moore , won the 800 Meter Run in 2:02.33 . The depth of both EC and FC kept the meet close throughout the night and provided much excitement to the end .
Lawrenceburg came away with the most event titles on the night with five . Mason Parris , like Orschell , was also a triple-event winner in the boys ’ meet . He won the shot put ( 53 ’), the 110 High Hurdles ( 15.43 ), and the 300 IM Hurdles ( 40.75 ). Eastern National Archery Wrap-up , SDMS Qualifies for Worlds
South Dearborn Middle School , Moores Hill Elementary ( South Dearborn Elementary ), and Milan High School recently competed in the Eastern Nationals of the National Archery in the Schools Program ’ s ( NASP ) tournament . In total between all the divisions , 1,019 teams from schools east of the Mississippi River came to Louisville , Kentucky to compete . The local programs all competed well , and the team from South Dearborn Middle School did well enough to qualify for the NASP Worlds to be held again in Louisville on June 9 . The Worlds tournament will include teams from throughout the United States .
Head Coach Ted Chipman ’ s SDMS team scored a total 3223 points and shot 130 tens to place 82 out of 255 in its division . This middle school team has been consistently good all year by taking first through fourth in every tournament in which they competed throughout the year . The coaches , Chipman , Robin Monday , and Randy Jackson are extremely proud of this team and , perhaps , most proud that 13 of 17 middle school team members earned Academic Archer status at the Eastern Nationals by maintaining A ’ s , B ’ s , and C ’ s throughout the current academic year .
The top archer for the middle school team at Eastern Nationals was Eli Bishop who was 10th of 1033 eighth-grade archers and was 18th of all middle school boys archers at the tournament . The team consists of the following individuals , all of who advance as a team to the Worlds tournament : Taylor Benham , Eli Bishop , Jackson Chipman , Garrett Cornett , Kiersten Dixon , Trevor Drew , Coy Gaspard , Makayla Hiltenbeitel , Austin Hoskins , Rebecca Hughes , Trevor Jackson , Jake Kittle , Braxtin Kritlow , Trapper Lewis , Jon McClanahan , Angel Stegman , and Shanna Tschaen .
The Moores Hill Elementary ( South Dearborn Elementary ) team scored 2806 points and recorded 62 tens to place 136 of 171 elementary teams competing . Caleb Bishop was fourth of 785 fourth graders competing in the tournament . In addition , all 20 members of this elementary team were recognized as Academic Archers .
The Milan High School team was attempting to qualify for its third consecutive Worlds tournament , but they came up a bit short of that goal . Regardless , Head Coach Michael Allen ’ s team competed well by scoring 3224 points with 125 tens in finishing 159 of 237 high school teams competing in the tournament . Spencer Gammons and Bryan Rohrig both scored 278 points as the top finishers for Milan with Gammons a bit higher overall with more tens . Gammons also placed 156 of 598 junior boys while Rohrig was 152 of 765 freshman boys competing . The team also boasted nine members being named to the Academic Archer list of NASP .
NOTE : The Beacon would like to apologize for an error in last month ’ s story . It was erroneously reported that Rhea Miller was the head coach for Milan Archery . Michael Allen serves as head coach , with Rhea Miller and Marvin Hacker assisting in the program . I apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding this may have caused .
