Time flies. We often say
that when recalling events that
happened years in the past,
and one’s high school days are
no exception. The East Central
class of 1998 held its 20-year
class reunion on Oct. 13 at the
Dearborn Country Club. More
than thirty classmates gathered
to reminisce about their glory
days of high school and catch
up on current events.
Mark your calendar for the

town, as well as to the parish
and the local community.”
Campaign leader and OA
past parent Todd Reed sum-
marized: “OA belongs to a
spiritual ecosystem that exists
nowhere else. When this
group is in sync, it expands
the number of youth that is
more mentally, physically
and spiritually prepared…
they are exposed (more) to
God, His purpose for them,
and adds them as disciples.
Today’s ground breaking is
about more than concrete and
steel…it’s about growth, sup-
port, and opportunity!”
So my fellow readers… our
Village of Spires is steeped
in tradition and has broken
ground to afford even greater
opportunities for students who
are our future.

A ground-breaking cer-
emony for Oldenburg Acad-
emy’s Hillenbrand Family
Feldhaus was held on Oct. 24
and included a blessing by Fr.
Michael Keucher, Dean of
the Batesville Deanery, and
S. Delouise Menges, OSF,
Councilor for the Sisters of St.
Francis. Oldenburg Academy
Singers performed, and a
reception followed hosted by
the Parents Club.
Construction on this $3 mil-
lion facility is scheduled to be
completed by October, 2019.
Friendship State Bank is pro-
viding construction financing.
OA President Diane Laake
noted: “Today is indeed a day
for making history! Which for
a school that is one hundred
sixty-seven years old, is a
feat! As you will hear from
our other speakers, we have
hoped, strategized, prayed,
imagined, researched, and
waited… patiently waited…
until the moment was right.
And as the Book of Ecclesi-
astes reminds us, today is the
right time, a time for breaking
ground. We are able to stand
here this afternoon because
of the extraordinary vision
and dedication of many. First
and foremost, we are grateful
to the Sisters of St. Francis
on whose shoulders we stand
every day, continuing and
ensuring their legacy. Thank
you, Sisters, for your courage,
commitment, and trust in us.”
Fr. Carl Langenderfer,
OFM, Pastor at Holy Fam-
ily Parish shared: “The town,
the parish, the Sisters, and the
Academy are interconnected;
what happens to one affects
all the others. For the town to
continue to grow and flourish,
the Academy needs to flourish,
and this new Feldhaus offers
many new opportunities to the

To keep myself busy and
not watching too much TV, I
have been working on dif-
ferent kinds of puzzles. So I
told myself that I should do
something more productive. I
already had a pair of pillow-
cases to embroider, so I was
glad to start on something else
to keep myself entertained.
I had the pillow cases, the
thread, and the needles sitting
right beside me and thought I
would embroider them for a
little while, but, wait a minute,
it is Sunday! Long ago when
I was six or seven years old,
my Grandma Callahan was
visiting us. I heard her say,
“You do not want to sew on
things on a Sunday because
when you get to Heaven, you
will have to pick out every
stitch you made with your
nose.” I did not say anything
to Grandma, but I sure did
wonder how anyone could do
such a thing with their nose.
During my lifetime I have
never done any big-time sew-
ing on a Sunday, so I hope this
little bit of embroidery work
does not count as sewing.
We thank the Logan Su-
permart for their “Customer
Appreciation Day.” Many
people won nice prizes and
were well fed. Thanks again
Mike and Diane Bender for
your generosity and a well-
attended day of fun.
Cold weather seems a lot
harder to get used to this win-
ter. Getting a little older makes
a person hope for warmer
weather. But we will learn
to take whatever the weather
brings to everyone wherever
we live. I only saw one woolly
worm this fall. Its colors were
all the same size- dark brown,
light brown, and brown. Usu-
ally, we see a lot of woolly
worms in the fall, but I only
saw this one. Years ago people
watched the colors on them
and predicted if the winter
would be nice or a bad one.
We will get through the winter
and look forward to spring.
Hope everyone has a good
Thanksgiving, or as the
younger ones say, “Let’s have
a good turkey day.” The fam-
ily gatherings are a lot of work
but great fun.
The time to prepare for
a Merry Christmas is com-
ing quickly. Well, not for
the children, just the adults.
Putting up all the decorations
is tiring. But when everything
is in place, and the shopping
is finished, we can sit back
and think, “Isn’t this a great
holiday.”
Let us remember the reason
for the season is Jesus’s birth-
day and share the story with
the children. All the Christmas
carols are beautiful, and we do
not get tired of hearing them.
Let us all just sit back and
enjoy everything.
“Never stop doing things for
others. Sometimes those little
things occupy the biggest part
of their hearts.” via the Posi-
tively Positive Facebook page.
