Winter is slowly creeping up on us . I walked past the Greendale pool and realized the umbrellas are down and the pool is empty . Good bye to summer ! Halloween has just passed , and Thanksgiving is right around the corner .
Football has ended for the season , and basketball season is just beginning . Upward offers an excellent basketball program for boys and girls ages 5-13 years old and is based on fun , values and learning basketball skills . They

OA is pleased to announce their outstanding results for the ISTEP + scores for the 2016-17 school year . Out of the schools reported to the state , Oldenburg Academy ranks in the top five in Indiana for percentage passing the ISTEP + test . According to assistant principal Jonathon Maple , " We are extremely pleased with our results - having one of the best passing rates ( percentage-wise ) in both the state and within the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for

My husband and I took a short trip at the end of September and stayed at Hawks Nest State Park Lodge in West Virginia . Our room overlooked the gorge with the New River below . The New River is three hundred sixty miles long and is one of the five oldest rivers in the world . Not far from Hawks Nest is a steel arch bridge called the New River Bridge which spans 1,700 feet across the gorge at 876 feet above the base . The New River bridge crosses over the gorge into Fayetteville , WV . My husband and I decided to venture out and take the New River Gorge Bridge Walk . I do not do well with heights , so this was a challenge for me . The

OA ’ s Alumni Association hosted its Homecoming in October and among the evening ’ s festivities , John Armbruster , OA ’ s Chemistry & Physics Instructor , was presented the Virtue , Honor & Education Award for his many contributions in educating students over the past thirteen years at OA . Carolyn Hortemiller Dieckmann ’ 70 , Elizabeth Schrimpf ’ 04 , Kendra Wessling Weisbrod ’ 09 and Lucas Nare ’ 11 were inducted into the Ammann- Brinkmoeller Athletic Hall of Fame which recognizes outstanding contributions by student-athletes , coaches , administrators and other supporters of OA athletics .

Condolences go out to the family of Bill Ewbank on his passing . Bill was a classmate of mine since the first grade . He worked for Dearborn County as the Veterans Officer and also as the Dearborn County Administrator . After he retired , he was a driver for the Veterans Office transporting Veterans to the VA Hospital in Cincinnati . Bill was a proud Navy Veteran and resided on the old Ewbank homestead off of State Route 1 in Guilford .

Pauletta and Bayard Pelsor recently spent a week on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu as they celebrated forty years of marriage . While there , they toured Pearl Harbor , attended a luau , hiked to Diamond Head and toured around the island .
Congratulations to Tyler and Paige ( Minges ) Moore who were united in marriage during a lovely ceremony on Oct . 14 . Paige ’ s parents , Jeff and Maria Minges , are longtime friends of ours .
Deepest condolences are sent to Lynn Deddens of
Oldenburg Academy in everyday life . I was humbled by the recognition . In my acceptance speech , I noted that I am proud to report on my alma mater in The Beacon .
