December 2017 THE BEACON Page 13 From a dogs point of view By BamBam & Tammy Turner Hi guys, BamBam here, coming to you from the shelter. This is my favorite time of the year- a time when everyone tells what they are thankful for and everyone is out shopping for gifts for the holidays. Being the handsome hound that I am, I do not mind telling you that I BamBam love gifts. I can give you some suggestions if you need some, toys and treats, treats and toys, and a nice family to take me home to love. But seriously, we are so thankful for the people of Dearborn County. Whenever we are in need of something, the people in Dearborn come thru. We say that we are in need of toys, and they start showing up. We ask for toddler beds and mattresses, blankets, dog beds and we get them. And we take in donations. This county is very generous to us, and we love and appreciate everyone so much. A lot of people do not know what these donations are used for, so I will try to tell you. This shelter takes a lot to run on a daily basis. Our kennels have to be cleaned daily which takes a lot of people because there are thirty-nine kennels and two dog rooms. The cats have eight rooms, several of which are full of cages. So a lot of effort is needed to keep us clean. Then comes the feeding. We get fed twice a day (my favorite times). Think of what is needed to feed your pets and times that by millions! Well, maybe not that many, but there are a lot of us. Some of us get medicine, and we all get treated monthly for fleas. Then comes the money it takes to keep the building warm or cool, depending on the weather (we do like to keep the temp around 68-70. That does not mean that we are spoiled, just pampered). Not to mention all the spay and neuter cost and gas to make the vet runs, etc. I could go on and on. We try to do a lot of fund raising to help raise money, like our Halloween party that we had last month. It was a huge success. So we just want to say a very big thank you for all the donations and the help that the community has given us. We love all the volunteers who come in to either take us on walks, help keep us clean, or just to spend time and socialize with us. We appreciate you very much. We are also so very thankful for our fosters who take in so many of our pets. And our rescues that take a lot of our animals out and put them right into foster homes. So again, thank you very much from all of us here at the shelter- we couldn’t do it without you. Come in for a visit; we love to see you. Love, BamBam requests from almost six hundred area children. In addition to the drive sponsored by the Dearborn County Hospital, toy donations are received from individuals, businesses, and schools. Last year’s monetary donations, including $400 from DCH
