GREENDALE

While walking in Greendale Cemetery , around Lawrenceburg , and in Lesco Park in Aurora , I have found painted rocks scattered around with sayings put on them . All kinds of neat sayings are on the rocks . If you find one of these rocks , you can either keep it or hide it again . I have a picture of my favorite rock with a big smile . Some of the sayings on the rocks you might find will say have a nice day , smile , love , prayer works , hope , Greendale Fire , and painted flowers . My granddaughter has found several rocks . Visit Dearborn County Rocks on Facebook and see some of the rocks found .
Every year my sister , Kathi Rowland , her daughter Stephanie Danca , and my daughter Debbie Seymour take a trip . This year we went to Chautauqua Lake in western New York . The lake was formed during the glacial period . It is seventeen miles long and two miles wide . We spent a lot of time dining , walking around , and listening to the music on the southeastern end of the lake at Bemus Point . We drove around the perimeter of the lake and visited several wineries along the way . My sister and I were born in Olean N . Y . a small town fifty miles from Chautauqua Lake . Olean is a lot like Lawrenceburg just a bit larger . Instead of hills and the Ohio River , Olean has the Allegheny Mountains on the Allegheny River . My dad was employed by Olean Glass until the company closed down . We had very nice visits with two of our aunts and our cousins .
Congratulations to Sally and Jeff Jung on the birth of their daughter Amelia Karen born Aug . 1 . Amelia is welcomed home by her big brother Evan . Enjoy ! .
Jack and Lynda Hill have
Gloria ' s favorite painted rock .
just purchased a new house on Cora Avenue in Greendale . They both have been busy adding their own personal touch to their home . Jack does a lot of fishing at Schnabelt ’ s pond while Lynda walks their dog Buddy on the walking path around the pond . Enjoy your new home .
I finally got in touch with the man who feeds the squirrel in Greendale Cemetery . I will be letting you know about Bob in my next article .
I have three September birthdays on Sept . 11- my next door neighbor Wilma Dickerson , my brother John Kush , and my niece Stephanie Danca . Happy birthday to all of you .

I can ’ t believe that we are already at the October edition of this year . Soon enough it will actually begin to feel like fall and before we know it we will be in the holiday season ! Time is flying , so I ’ ll let you know what you should check out in Sunman in the next month or so . There will be a first annual Party in the Park on October 14 from 4 p . m . - 12 a . m . at the Sunman Community Park and on October 28 there is a Bunco Tournament with basket raffle to be held at the Sunman Legion . This past weekend we wrapped up the Salute A Soldier 5k and Sunman Fall Festival . I hope everyone who attended had an enjoyable time !
The Sunman Community Park is in the beginning stages of the largest transformation the Town has seen in a very long time ! The Park Board is in the process of remodeling the Campbell Building , constructing a restroom / concession stand facility in the back of the park , and putting in a meditation garden . They are anticipating the completion of these projects by year end .
In the beginning of August our local Special Olympics Unified Volleyball Team , the R . O . D . County Hot Rods , competed in a tournament in Hope , IN to get ready for their big tournament in September . They will compete against teams from all over the state of Indiana in Indianapolis . Good luck to the Hot Rods
Carolyn and Donald Richter and their family received the Hoosier Homestead Award at the Indiana State Fair .
along with all the other sports that will be playing that weekend !
One of our local farms received a special award recently . Donald and Carolyn Richter , owners of Richter farm , were honored with a centennial award from the Indiana State Department of Agriculture at the Indiana State Fair . Seventy-two families received a Hoosier Homestead Award this year . The award is given to farms that have been in the same family for one hundred years or more . The Richter farm has been running since 1913 and Don and Carolyn purchased it in 1974 .

Sunman ? Here is your answer ! Sunmanville became Sunman when the post office was established in 1960 . Before it was called Sunmanville , it was known as Vanness Switch , Leffliers Station , and Smith Switch .
Now I have a ‘ Holy Cow ’ question for you ? Who rode a cow to St . Nicholas School and back home after spending the day at school ? If you think you know the answer , send me an email and I will mention you in the next article !
I would like you to let me know about family milestones , vacation , or little bit about Sunman and yourself . Share the good news with me at sunman @ GOBEACONnews . com !
