February 2018 THE BEACON Page 3A Courthouse Annex is Almost Completed Continued from page 1 Prior to the construction of the Annex, some over- crowded offices were liter- ally located in closet areas in the original courthouse. The new Annex was designed to accommodate these spaces as professional offices and conference rooms. “The design of the Annex and the offices within are so much more professional and allow for privacy during meetings,” said Karen Ernst, director of media relations for the Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office. Commissioner Shane McHenry has worked with Maxwell Construc- tion throughout the project concerning design deci- sions, necessary changes, and budgetary concerns. Commissioner McHenry stated, “Maxwell Construc- tion employs people from our community who actually care about the project. Chris Grabowski, the head fore- man, held subcontractors’ feet to the fire and made sure they did what they were sup- posed to.” Because of careful plan- ning and diligent manage- ment of this project, the budget for the construction of the Annex is on track for what was initially estimated. “Cost savings in some areas freed up funds for the pur- chase of items that will en- able departments to function more efficiently,” stated Sue Hayden, Dearborn County Administrator.
