Our Founding Family

Those who have read Marcia Mitchell’ s book, Milestones & Miracles, likely remember the poignant story of how God used Phil and Marcia’ s daughter, Missy to inspire them to establish the Little Light House. The book reflects some of the challenges the family went through during the difficult years of Little Light House history as well as the joys and blessings they experienced over the decades, getting the Little Light House established. What many may not know is“ the rest of the story!”
Many have asked, especially as the 45th anniversary of the Little Light House draws near...“ What is Missy doing these days and where are the Mitchell’ s now?” So we thought we’ d provide you with an update. Following Missy’ s graduation from Metro Christian Academy, she attended Oklahoma Baptist University where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in Music Education. She then pursued a career as a Contemporary Christian Vocal Artist and song writer. Over the next decade she traveled across the nation performing concerts and ministering in churches. She recorded three CDs, including songs she wrote or co-wrote herself. She also taught Performance Technique and did career coaching. In 2008, Missy obtained her Master’ s Degree in Christian Counseling

Although Missy was told she would never drive, at the age of 31, through an online resource, she discovered a doctor who was passionate about enabling people with low vision to drive using modern medical technology. Though Missy is still waiting for“ Mr. Right,” she became passionate about becoming a mom after a trip to China with her mother in 2008. In 2012, she was able to adopt her first beautiful little girl from China and in 2014 adopted her second. They are now six and seven years old and thrilled to be a part of their forever family!
