In June, the Little Light House Therapy Team hosted its 2nd annual summer camp! This year, summer camp focused on exploring the world God made with our bodies-- exploring sensory, visual and gross motor activities while focusing on the curriculum story of“ Jonah.” The campers used their listening ears to hear songs and stories about Jonah. They learned the importance of hearing and obeying God. Our underwater-themed camp was a fun and interactive way to a great week.
Many summer camps cost money, require travel, and sometimes, overnight stays. Knowing that many of our kids would not have the chance to participate in something like that, the Little Light House therapists wanted to bring camp to them! Each class got to spend a whole day at camp, complete with a pizza party! For snack times, we made an underwater graham cracker scene and went“ fishing” with pretzels, blue icing and goldfish crackers.
Thanks to our many volunteers, the students received one-on-one help for each activity. Our gross motor activity had our

We used water tables to explore underwater sensory textures, sand tables to dig out treasures and light tables to play with jello resembling water! We even made shaker bottles with sand and seashells and did a literacy activity with LAMP communication symbols to make a treasure map.
Our physical therapists, occupational therapists and vision therapist used creative ideas to teach about God’ s Word and the importance of listening and obeying, all while singing songs and moving our bodies. Our camp included a“ beach” area where we gathered for opening and closing circle, to sing songs and to watch our“ Going on a whale hunt” video.
Our campers enjoyed their week and the therapists had a lot of fun, too! There is no limit to how you can use your body to explore the world our great God has created! He made it for us to enjoy and that was our main objective during Camp Explore. It was very clear that everyone enjoyed exploring new activities while learning about Jonah!
