Next step:
dancing
A child’s first steps are one of the
most thrilling milestones for both
parents and the child! Walking opens
up new doors of exploration, fun and
independence. Here at Little Light
House, we are frequently blessed
with participating in this delightful
event. Many children begin walking
initially with assistive devices such
as cruising around furniture, using
walkers or push toys, or holding
an adult’s hands. As balance and
trunk control mature, less and less
support is needed. And finally all
the dots connect and independent
steps emerge! One of these success
stories observed this year happened
in December right before Luca’s third
birthday. He is now busily exploring
the environment all on his own and
learning so many new things by doing
so. He can even stand up from the
floor without help which requires
much more complex balance and
control. Now that Luca has met his
biggest milestones for the year, his
mom has set her eyes on a new goal
for him to start dancing while on his
feet. Imagine how much fun and play
can happen to the “beat of the music”.
Learning to walk is a rite of childhood
that brings joy to all who are blessed
enough to watch it emerge. We praise
God for Luca’s free and independent
walking skills and will gently
encourage him to meet the next one
- dancing!!
