The Baseball Observer Mental Skills Issue | Page 29

ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS:

The baseball player with a mediocre mindset perceives rough days at the field as “bad days”.

The baseball player with a great mindset will look back on a rough day and say, “ ehh..it could've been better”.

The baseball player with an Elite Mindset fully understands that a rough day at the field is a only a “learning day”. Therefore, he chooses to utilize those days as opportunities to practice patience & self-discipline. The baseball player with an elite mindset WORKS THE PROCESS DURING THE OFF-SEASON and then TRUSTS THE PROCESS DURING THE SEASON.

The baseball player with an elite mindset will understand my core four principles of adversity (in baseball and life):

1) Adversity can serve as one of the greatest competitive advantages that

an athlete can possess. Therefore, be grateful for it.

2) Adversity is the one of the greatest mentors that will always be there.

Therefore, choose to learn from it.

3) Without adversity, growth would be non-existent.

4) Adversity causes some men to make excuses, and others to make

history.
