NJCAA DII Round – Up Last Week: April 27th-May 3rd Pre-season rankings had the top 5 as: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Mesa (AZ) Hinds (MS) Madison (WI) Pasco Hernando (FL) Mercer (NJ) Last Week (4/29/15) Starting Polls 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) LSU Eunice (38-9) Frederick Community College (40-5) Hinds Community College (34-5) Sinclair Community College (41-7) Paradise Valley (38-13) During the Week: #1 LSU Eunice jumped to the No. 1 spot last week. They were idle during the weekday. #2 Frederick played a DH at CCBC Essex on 4/28 winning game one 13-12 and losing game two 5-6. In the bottom of the 9th of game one, Essex was down nine runs. They came up one run short scoring eight times. #3 Hinds won the 2015 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) regular season championship on 4/27 after sweeping Meridian Community College in a doubleheader 11-4 and 13-8. #4 Sinclair played Miami - Hamilton on 4/29 defeating them 12-7. #5 Paradise Valley on 4/30 played the first of two games vs. Scottsdale and lost 2-1. Scottsdale broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 9th – scoring one run to beat Paradise Valley. Weekend Play: #1 LSU Eunice (41-9) earned their 40th win of the season as they grabbed a 5-3, 8-6 sweep over Temple College on 5/2. In game one, Starter Mitch Sewald (11-1) earned the win as he struck out eight, walked two and allowed two earned runs. In game two, Jordan Romero went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, then on 5/3 they completed the sweep of Temple by winning 12-5. #2 Frederick (44-6) played Hood College JV in a single game on 5/2 defeating them 10-1. Chris Mattison had a great day at the plate. Slugging 2 HR’s and a 3-run double for a total of 7 RBI. They came back on 5/3 playing a DH vs. Montgomery College taking game one 1-0. In game two they got a shutout win 4-0 using six pitchers. #3 Hinds (38-5) played Southwest on 5/2 and took both games of the DH 14-3 and 13-3. Next on the schedule is the MACJC State Tournament 5/7-5/9. #4 Sinclair (44-9) had an in conference four game series at Cuyahoga. On 5/1 they split the DH winning 4-3 and losing 3-13. It took 10 innings for Sinclair to win game one in the top of the 10th. With the score tied at three, Eric Hansman came to the plate and doubled, scoring Brody Basilone for the win. On 5/2 they split again. Losing game one 1-8 and winning game two 11-3. #5 Paradise Valley (41-7) came back on 5/1 to finish a short two game series with Scottsdale. Unfortunately the results didn’t change. Paradise Valley lost again 10-4.
