Whitewater Athletics 5/3/15: The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater clinched its third straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship Sunday with a doubleheader sweep at UW-Stout. The Warhawks (30-7 overall, 18-6 WIAC) claimed the conference title outright, finishing one game ahead of UW-La Crosse in the standings. UW-Whitewater downed the Blue Devils 5-1 in the first game and 14-5 in the nightcap to win its 16th league championship. The Warhawks will host next week's WIAC Championship tournament, which begins Friday at 10 a.m. at Prucha Field at Miller Stadium. In the opener, senior left-hander Colin Grove pitched the team's third consecutive complete game and his fourth of the year, scattering five hits while striking out four in the effort. He improved to 8-1 for the season. UW-Whitewater tallied twice in the top of the fifth inning and never trailed in the contest. Freshman centerfielder Daytona Bryden and senior left fielder Trey Cannon contributed run-scoring singles in the frame. After UW-Stout (17-22, 5-19) drew to within one in the bottom of the sixth, the Warhawks responded with two in the top of the eighth. Senior first baseman Casey Power hit an RBI groundout, and sophomore third baseman Steve Chamberlain made it a three-run game with a base hit to left.
