ADVERTORIAL
A new chapter begins
for Atze’s Corner.
Family cellar door open till sunset.
A brand new Cellar Door has opened
in the Barossa, capturing the very
essence of the family at its heart.
Atze’s Corner, on Research Road,
Nuriootpa, is a treasure waiting to be
discovered by those seeking a casual,
refined wine tasting experience that
showcases generations of grape
growing tradition.
Winery founder, Andy Kalleske, is at
home here. He grew up on the property,
surrounded by the sights and sounds
of vintage.
“I started making wines 13 years
ago.... I made a bit in the backyard
here, in mum’s car shed essentially,”
he laughs.
Back then, he was keen for the family
business to evolve and winemaking
seemed a natural progression to
showcase what the surrounding
vineyards were capable of.
The winery was built eight years
ago, followed by a stage two expansion
which included the addition of a
mezzanine platform where Andy
and winemaker Ryan Johns would
do pump-overs into the wine tanks
located alongside.
Fast forward to today and that same
mezzanine has been transformed into
a premium Cellar Door with natural,
rustic charm in yet another evolution
to incorporate direct customer sales.
Copper is a feature here, along with
marble, natural timber and sumptuous
leather seating.
But it’s the elevated views across
the entire valley floor, overlooking the
very vineyard from which Atze’s Corner
wines are made, that truly captivates.
“My Great grandmother was an Atze,
she was born here,” explains Andy
surveying the Shiraz vines beyond.
“My great uncle Eddie Staehr, who
was my grandma’s brother, helped
plant the oldest vineyard we’ve got
here, it was planted in 1912. The first
wine we made for Atze’s Corner was
from that old vineyard.”
The new Cellar Door completes
another chapter in the Atze’s Corner
story.
“Whilst we have a lovely view and
hope people can have a good time out
here on the deck, the focus is still very
much on the wine,” says Andy.
“At the end of the day, that’s what
we love and take pride in and we want
to make sure that comes across in the

way we present our wine.”
Atze’s Corner Cellar Door is unique
in that it is built inside a working
winery with stainless steel tanks and
barrels all in full view, and the vineyard
operations just outside.
The venue will also be open later
into the evening.
“We’ll be open until a bit after sunset
so when all the other Cellar Doors
are closing, there’s another option...
that’s our big point of difference.
“People can buy a glass of wine and
a cheese platter and sit out on the
balcony looking over the old vineyard
and watch the sun setting. There is
that connection to both the vineyards
and the winery.”
