Anticipation and high expectations awaited the Bulldogs coming into this season, and those only grew after delays and disasters resulting from Hurricane Harvey. Questions began to arise after a rocky start to the season with losses to both Crosby and Silsbee. Despite this, the Bulldogs turned it around with Statement wins over Rudder and Bridge City, winning by a combined 61 points. The momentum carried forward as the Darkside took the district by storm, going undefeated and winning their 4th District Championship in a row. This run of wins strung together included an absolute nail-biter against Rusk on Homecoming night, ending with a QB sneak into the end zone as time expired in true Friday Night Lights action. The first round playoff game featured a match-up full of surprise against the Atlanta Rabbits, and although Atlanta led by one point at halftime, the game concluded in a very convincing 4-touchdown win for the Bulldogs. Moving on to play Celina in the second round, the Bulldogs traveled to Athens to suit up for battle. Although connecting on big passing plays throughout the game, luck would soon run out for Jasper s own, as Celina came out on top in a 35-27 thriller nearly 3 hours away from home. Leading Rusher Jerkerion Simmons 12 rushed for 1,369 yards on only 157 carries through 9 games this season averaging an insane 152.1 yards for each game on an average of 8.7 yards per carry. R Kel Collins 12 led the Bulldog receiving corps with 252 receiving yards including 3 touchdowns. William Bluitt 11 was a stone wall on defense this season, with a total of 73 tackles. Brashaun Hubbard 10 was a defensive play-maker and an outstanding pass rusher leading the team this season with 7 sacks.
