DAWGS Dominate District Track and Field events can trace their roots back to at least 700BC. Many modern events such as the shot put have been around since the first modern Olympics held in 1896. In this event the object is to put the 12 pound ball as far as possible, and by the look on Ryan Jones face it can be a little bit difficult. Today s track and field events include the discus throw, long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole-vault, and numerous track distances ranging from 100 meters to 3200 meters (8 laps around the track). 7 2018 Area Qualifiers Alex Camacho 12 - Pole Vault James Pulliam 10 - Pole Vault Bryce Barbay 10 - Pole Vault, 110m Hurdles Luktourius Collins 12 - High Jump, Triple Jump R'Kel Collins 12 - Triple Jump, 800m, 400m, 4x400m Davon Scott 10 - 4x200m, 4x400m, 200m Montavien Hunt 10 - 4x100m, 4x200m, 100m Charles Burnett 11 - 200m, 4x200m, 4x400m Jerkerion Simmons 12 - 100m, 4x100m Reggie Shaw 10 - Long Jump, 4x100m Camryn Adams 11 - Long Jump, 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m Joshua Adams 11 - 200m Christian Kraus 11 - 800m At this year s district meet the boys varsity team took the district championship, scoring 193 total points. Chesni Broussard 9 qualified for the Area meet as the final leg in the 4x400 meter girls relay. She said that this is one of the races that everybody pays attention to and that she loves running the final leg. R Kel Collins 12 qualified for area in the triple jump, 800 meter, 400 meter, and the 4x400 meter races. He loves the adrenaline rush as he finishes the last leg of the race. Perhaps the most exciting event of the day is watching Luktourius Collins 12 compete in the high jump. This event is dominated by athletes over 6 feet tall, but this 5 6 senior out-jumps them all at a height of 6 1 . Watching everyone s jaw drop as he clears those heights is the most enjoyable part of competition for him. 1.
