TO THE LIGHTHOUSE - THE BANDA SCHOOL NURSES

FROM TUMBLES TO RUMBLES, TO SPRAINS AND PAINS THE NURSES OF THE BANDA HAVE SEEN IT ALL!

The Banda School Nurses began with Ma Chitty acting in a

nursing capacity before Jo Cowie a Registered Nurse took on

the position. Jo was followed by Glenn Keshavjee in 1978, known

as "Mrs K." In 1989 Mary Page-Morris, 'PM" a State Registered

Nurse (SRN) and State Certified Midwife never thought she would

ever be using midwifery on duty!

Vividly she can recall a Wednesday morning at 9.00 am when

a member of the public was in labour outside the school gates.

The baby was duly delivered under a tree.

In 2004 Sister Emily joined the team as the

first House Mother and Nurse for the

Boarding House and then took over the

Medical Centre in 2006. She recalls a

busy day when a whirlwind swept

across the fields and this time not the

pupils but two parents required

medical attention.

Since 2012 Sister Dorcas known

affectionately as Sister 'D'

(main picture) tends with

compassion to the next

generation of Banda

tumbles

and rumbles!
