Dispute Resolution
The Dispute Resolution Section started off the year with a tremendous breakfast meeting via zoom on September 1 , 2021 on the topic of the newly enacted “ Georgia Uniform Mediation Act ”. Our panelists included Stephen McKinney ( Klotz Companies ), Sasan Nematbakhsh ( Nemat Law Firm ), Tracy Johnson ( Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution ), and Shelby S . Guilbert Jr . ( McGuireWoods LLP ).
The next scheduled meeting is on October 6 , 2021 , another breakfast meeting via zoom on the topic of “ Dispute Resolution in Sports : Handling MLB salary arbitrations to NFL player grievances .” Our panelist will include : CEO Mike Moyes ( Moyes Sports ), Former Director of Football Operations Nick Polk ( Atlanta Falcons ), and Alex Ott ( JET Sports Management ). Additionally , on October 27 , 2021 , the Dispute Resolution Section will also be jointly presenting a program on the topic of “ Drafting and Negotiating Successful Dispute Resolution Provisions ” with the Construction Section of the Atlanta Bar with panelists George Reid ( The Reid Firm ) and Brad Parrott ( Hudson Lambert Parrott Walker ).

Litigation
The Litigation Section has already been moving , literally , into the Bar year . The Litigation Section sponsored and participated in the 2021 The Legal Runaround supporting the Atlanta Police Department . We have been excited for the start of our monthly breakfast meetings . The first meeting was held on September 24 , 2021 at 7:30 a . m . in person at the Ansley Golf Club where we discussed the State of the Judiciary . COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines were observed . The Annual Bench and Bar Reception on October 8 , 2021 is sold out . Public Interest Law
SECTION UPDATES
The Public Interest Law Section is off to a busy start this bar year . In the wake of the Supreme Court dissolution of the Centers for Disease Control Eviction Moratorium , PILS convened a panel of housing experts on September 14 , 2021 to discuss what the end of the moratorium will mean for metro Atlanta renters and landlords , and how attorneys can help the tens of thousands of Atlanta area residents now facing homelessness . If you missed the panel , the recording is available !
For the rest of the bar year , our Section plans to find ways to engage with potential pro bono volunteers in our “ new normal ” and to support our public interest lawyer members , many of whom have experienced vicarious trauma as result of serving their clients in crisis over the past 18 months . Finally , we will continue the evaluation of our bylaws through an anti-racist lens , a project that we began 2020 . Stay tuned for our coming events !
