section update Real Estate Section Update By Michael E. Leavey Dorough & Dorough, LLC [email protected] I t was truly an honor to attend the Atlanta Bar Association's Celebrating Service luncheon in October and accept the Atlanta Bar's Pro Bono Award on behalf of the Real Estate Section for our Pro Bono Landlord Assistance Project. The program could not be as successful as it is without the participation of our Section's members who have volunteered their time to provide pro bono consultations to unrepresented and underserved residential landlords at the Fulton County State and Magistrate Court Self-Help Center. For those who are interested in volunteering or have questions about the project, please contact Cory Thompson at [email protected]. On October 23, Section members met for a hard hat tour of Ponce City Market, Jamestown Properties' redevelopment of the huge, old Sears building on Ponce de Leon Avenue. Our group, which included members of the development's legal team and the Jamestown's in-house counsel, got a great overview of the history of the building and the redevelopment project, and we toured several levels of what will be the marketplace, retail and restaurant areas, and office space. We also got to see a "mock up" office space that was built to give prospective tenants an idea of the finished product. The renovation and redevelopment of this building is a huge undertaking and is sure to have a huge impact on this area of town for years to come! After the tour, our group enjoyed cocktails across the street from the project at 4th & Swift. meetings and events for unemployed attorneys and law students. If you are interested in becoming more involved with the Section or its activities, please contact a Board member or Karen English at [email protected]. *** The Real Estate Section’s Board includes Chair, Michael E.
