T
he month of October has been a busy one with our
Section’s monthly meeting and our 10th Annual
Forum. Our Section continues to provide our members
with relevant, up-to-date information on estate planning and
probate matters.
Matthew Howard was the speaker at our October 9, 2013
monthly breakfast meeting. Matthew is with Moore Ingram
Johnson & Steele, LLP in Atlanta, and currently serves
as senior partner in the firm's Corporate, Tax and Estate
Planning Department. He heads up the firm’s Tax Litigation
Department, handling disputes for individuals and corporations
before the Internal Revenue Service. His topic for our group
was on microcaptive insurance companies and how they can
be formed and used for the benefit of the taxpayer. Matthew
provided excellent insight into working with the IRS in these
matters.
The Section's Annual Forum featured a presentation by Natalie
Choate, author of Life and Death Planning for Retirement
Benefits, and nationally renowned lecturer. Notably, the
Section was fortunate not to have lost the opportunity to hear
Ms. Choate, as her flight was delayed in Boston and did not
land in Hartsfield-Jackson Airport until 12:30 p.m., whic
