SideBar Update:
SideBar met on October 16, 2019 where Ambassadors
and Bar leaders discussed ways to get involved with
Sections and committees, networked with peers, and
brainstormed ideas for a Foundation spring fundraiser.
SideBar will have its final meeting in November where
members will learn about community service and pro
bono opportunities in the Atlanta legal community.
Applications for SideBar’s Spring class will be available
starting in November 2019. Enrollment is limited; and
the group is open to all Atlanta Bar Members regardless
of experience level or practice area. There is no cost to
join. SideBar meets monthly for networking, leadership
training and helping members get engaged with various
Bar programs.
Whether it is related to work, personal challenges, finances, or
otherwise, stress affects each of us differently. Some are able to
manage the stress through positive outlets like exercise, mediation,
or mindfulness training. However, many of us, especially in the legal
field, attempt to manage stress through alcohol or other means. This
is why it is important to step back and focus on ourselves, committing
to a personal “audit” of how we tackle these types of challenges. It is
also important to reach out and ask for help.
We can all work towards getting ourselves and our colleagues on
track with wellness efforts simply by being engaged. Resources
are available through the Atlanta Bar Association, the State Bar of
Georgia, and through specific groups and committees focused on
attorney wellbeing. One way to help is by joining the Atlanta Bar
Association’s Wellness Committee. Our goal is to weave wellness
efforts into our everyday lives for both personal and professional
growth.
