L
awyers, law students and legal support staff who
are interested in volunteering with the Truancy
Intervention Project Georgia’s “Advocating for
the Truant Child” can sign up for training, 11:00 am
-3:00 pm on October 21 at the offices of Alston &
Bird LLP. The seminar is free for non-attorneys and
law students. For attorneys seeking CLE credit, the
fee is only $40 for 3.5 CLE hours.
As a partnership between the Fulton County Juvenile
Court, Fulton County School System, Atlanta Public
Schools and the Atlanta Bar Foundation, the Truancy
Intervention Project Georgia assigns volunteer
partners (lawyer and non-lawyer) to children who are
involved with the juvenile court system as a result
of excessive absences from school. The Truancy
Intervention Project also has an early intervention
initiative, which connects volunteers with children
and families to intervene at the school level, before a
juvenile court referral becomes necessary.
The main objective of the project is to provide early,
positive intervention when children are noted for
excessive school absences. In a best case, once
the reasons for the absences are determined and
resolved and the child returns to school, the child’s life
can be redirected to a positive and constructive future.
Please get involved today to help curb school
absenteeism and redirect a child’s life to a positive
and constructive future. Registration is available on
the Atlanta Bar Association’s website,
www.atlantabar.org.
