he Construction Law Section of the Atlanta Bar Association kicked off the 2013-2014 Bar Year with a
Board of Directors planning session on August 6,
2013, followed by the Section’s first Breakfast Meeting of
the new Bar Year on September 25, 2013. Both meetings
were well attended.
The Section’s tentative schedule for the current year is as
follows:
• Wednesday, November 20, 2013: Tentative title: “What
Keeps Design Professionals Awake at Night – a Panel
Discussion,” by Hal Gray, Moderator, and Panelists Mark
Chen of Heery, Tony Parker of Pond and Company, Deirdre
Chriss of CNA, and possibly one more panelist;
• Holiday Party – December 10, 2013, 5:30-7:30 p.m. (Five
Seasons’ Sky Bar, 1000 Marietta Street);
All monthly breakfast meetings will be held at The Buckhead
Club, starting at 7:30 a.m., and are open to non-Section
members for a small additional charge. All of the breakfast
programs will qualify for Georgia CLE credit.
The Construction Law Section is always searching for
worthwhile pro bono and community service opportunities
that have a construction law connection. If any readers would
like to suggest such an opportunity, please contact Phil Beck,
2013-2014 Section Chair ([email protected]).

Section’s Board of Directors for further information regarding
the Construction Law Section; its meetings, programs, and
activities; or Section membership. The Section always
welcomes new members, as well as the return of former
members and colleagues. The cost to join the Section is only
$50 per year. Please join us for what should be a great year!
• Wednesday, January 22, 2014: “Georgia Legislative Report
– Bills Affecting the Construction Industry,” by Mark Woodall,
Director, Governmental Affairs, AGC Georgia;
• Wednesday, February 26, 2014: Joint Meeting with Dispute
Resolution Section. Tentative title: “What Advocates Do Right
and Wrong in Mediation & Arbitration – a Panel Discussion,”
Moderator and Panelists TBD;
• Wednesday, March 26, 2014: “Update on Georgia Legal
Ethics,” by George Sewell (to qualify for one hour of Georgia
CLE Ethics credit);
• Wednesday, April 23, 2014: Tentative title: “OSHA – We’re
From the Government and We’re Here to Help You,” by Ed
Foulke, Fisher & Phillips; former Assistant Secretary of Labor
of OSHA; and,
• Spring Social – May 2014 (Date and Location TBD).
