T
he Managing Partner Committee of the Atlanta
Bar Association held its Fall quarterly meeting on
Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at the Commerce Club facilities located at 191 Peachtree Street. The
meeting was described as “A Conversation with Atlanta
City Attorney Cathy Hampton.” Committee members engaged in an interesting dialogue with Ms. Hampton, regarding her role as the manager of the Law Department
of the City of Atlanta.
Ms. Hampton described a wide and varied set of oversight duties
as City Attorney. Her areas of responsibility include public safety,
the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, negotiation of city
contracts both large and small, and the high volume of litigation
matters involving the City and its operations. Public Safety is a
topic in which Cathy takes a keen interest, and she noted that
the City is approaching a milestone event, with nearly 2,000
police officers on its payroll. Accomplishments in this area include
