COMMUNITY in venues in Atlanta .
Lewis : I am a singer and performed in theatre as an undergrad at the University of Georgia , where I sang a duet in “ Man Of La Mancha .” I studied voice while in law school and was a professional actor for six years ( with a speaking part in “ My Cousin Vinnie ”). I was also in multiple “ A Courthouse Line ” bard shows with Atlanta Bar Association ( knocked ‘ em dead as Bill Clinton ). Now , I sing in weddings , dinner parties and bar rooms ( show tunes and rock ballads ), and perform the occasional National Anthem at football games .
Poole : I studied music in high school , initially playing saxophone , and discovered my love for guitar back in 1999 in 7th grade . I joined a band in 2003 , and we enjoyed a lot of local success in Atlanta playing everywhere from the Drunken Unicorn to the Masquerade to the EARL and eventually went on tour before I left to stay in college . I picked up rock music again in 2015 , with members from this same band , and we play live and record music today still . little effort as one to five hours a week .
What is a song , album , or artist that Atlanta lawyers should listen to as soon as possible ?
Heredia : Music continues to evolve and often our ears do not . For 2021 , check out Tyler the Creator ’ s record or the debut record by Geese ( not Goose ). From the past – Big Star ’ s “ Radio City ,” Wire ’ s “ Pink Flag ” or The Kinks ’ “ We Are the Village Green Preservation Society .”
Lewis : The best of the moderns is Michael Buble ’, so I ’ d say his versions of “ It Had Better Be Tonight ” or “ Sway .” Going back , Sinatra ’ s “ Once Upon a Time ” or “ One for My Baby ” will tear your heart out .
Poole : As far as new music goes ; I am still waiting for something to come out this year that is better than “ Cheater ” by Pom Poko . It does not look likely to me .
What is it about music that makes you feel passionate ?
Heredia : People throughout the ages say this and it is true : Music affects all of us in some way or manner regardless of upbringing , etc . It can connect us . It is that powerful and that is what I love about it .

Lewis : From Keats : “ Heard music is sweet .”
Poole : I cannot live without it . I took a break from music altogether after leaving my band in 2006 , it felt like leaving a relationship at the time . By the time I was in law school I realized not playing music ( loudly ) was making me miserable . The Atlanta Bar Foundation ’ s LawJam in 2016 is the entire reason I was able to start playing again . That was our first show and being able to tie my passion for music to serving the legal community was what really sparked my passion in music again .
What skills or lessons have you learned as a musician do you apply to your legal career ?

Heredia : Learning to perform on stage made me a better trial lawyer .
Lewis : Jury trials are stage plays , and as counsel you want to write the script and make your client the star as The Good Guy . It is nice if you can get the jury to trust you , too .
Poole : I used some of the time management and project / organizational skills I gained in practice to put together and run my current band with as little effort as possible . I found that if I put time into planning and goals , I can keep this band going with as
