On the business side, the recent changes to the federal tax law can have a major impact on your clients or current/future lawsuits. Join us for a discussion of the changes in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that directly impact your clients -- businesses and business owners. Changes to be discussed include corporate tax rates, qualified business income (QBI, especially important for privately held business owners), deductions, repatriation of profits, taxation of foreign partners upon the sale of domestic partnership interests, and Global Low Tax Intangible Income. 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Professionalism & Discovery - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Civility with Other Lawyers in the Discovery Process (Professionalism) The Code of Professional Conduct provides the baseline as to how attorneys should behave in their dealings with each other. We will also discuss confidentiality and ethical concerns and protections in the era of oversharing and internet boasting and shaming. 1:40 PM - 2:40 PM: Acknowledging and Interrupting Implicit Bias (Professionalism) While most lawyers generally understand the importance of diversity, many still face challenges with defeating implicit bias. This program, “Acknowledging and Interrupting Implicit Bias,” will not only help to identify the unconscious biases within the practice of law, but also provide a toolkit to interrupt and overcome these inclinations. 2:50 PM - 3:50 PM: Preserving ESI and your Sanity: Best Practices in eDiscovery (Trial Practice) Preserving ESI and Your Sanity: Best Practices in eDiscovery is a 60-minute panel led by Larry Kunin (Morris Manning & Martin LLP), Kevin Patrick (Kevin Patrick Law), and Harry Winograd (Bodker, Ramsey, Andrews, Winograd & Wildstein, P.C.).
