I
am honored to be the Chair of the Family Law Section
this year. We are off to a fast start with the events we
have already conducted, and will continue our fast start
for the rest of the year. We held a well-attended seminar on
“Mental Health Issues in Divorce and Custody Actions” on
September 17th, 2014 at the State Bar headquarters. The
feedback and reviews from the seminar have been nothing
but positive. The Family Law Section thanks the Litigation
Section for joining forces, and having the joint social held
on October 23rd, 2014 at Gordon Biersch. It was a great
opportunity to meet new people, mingle, and network.
We will be having another joint social with the Estate and
Probate Section in the Spring of next year, so stay tuned
for more details. Apparently, divorce attorneys have great
stories to tell.
One of our community service projects this year is to
contribute desperately needed school supplies to Beecher

Hills Elementary School. We are winding down this project,
and I am pleased to report that Beecher Hills will receive all of
the school supplies its students require. We will also continue
our traditional community service project of “adopting” children
for the Christmas season at Christian City Home for Children.
Specifically, members of our section adapt a specific child and
become their Secret Santa by purchasing Christmas presents
on their wish list and list of basic needs, such as clothing,
books, and pillows. Speaking of the holiday season, we will
have our annual holiday party at Fados on December 11th,
2014. Stay tuned for more details.
As always, we continue to hold our monthly breakfasts on the
second Thursday of every month at 7:30 am at the Buckhead
Club. We have a great list of speakers and presenters already
lined up for the rest of the year, so please come out and join
us for breakfast.
