truancy intervention project Truancy Intervention Project Georgia Bids a Fond Farewell to Key Board Members By Caren Cloud Truancy Intervention Project of Georgia [email protected] T he Board of Directors, staff and families of the Truancy Intervention Project Georgia wish to thank our outgoing Chair, Rick Rufolo, a vice-president with United Parcel Service and Immediate Past Chair, Patricia (Patti) Gorham, a partner with Sutherland for their dedicated service as Chairs of the Board as well as to Rick Deane, partner with Jones Day and Bridget Beier, original Board member, for their long and dedicated service to Truancy Intervention Project Georgia. Patti served as Chair from 2008-2010 and Rick served from 2010-2012. Each distinguished themselves through unique and lasting contributions. Patti assumed the role of Chair after founding Chair, Terry Walsh. She was the first person, other than Terry, to ever serve as Chair of TIP and in February 2008, took the reins and presided as Chair until September 2010. Rick, who served as Chairman from September 2010 through September 2012, led TIP through a couple of trying years, with the economic realities hitting non-profits especially hard, Rick has rallied support from new sources and presided over our 20th year celebration. Bridget was TIP’s original, first volunteer, doing everything for TIP in its early days before there was paid staff and serving on its Board of Directors since its incorporation in 1993. Rick Deane has served the board for over eleven years, working to establish TIP’s first legal clinic with students from both John Marshall and Georgia State University law schools. Although their board service is concluding, we are grateful that each of these four amazing volunteers will continue to take TIP cases and work on behalf of our clients. ■ ■ Recent photo of the TIP Board of Directors from left: Adwoa Awotwi, Adwoa Seymour, Doug MacGinnitie, Patti Gorham, Cecilia Oh, Faydren Battle, Rick Rufolo, Jessica Pennington, Bridget Beier, Arletta Brinson, Mary Benton and Terry Walsh (not pictured Rick Deane, John Harper, Gaye Smith and Harold Franklin) The Official News Publication of the Atlanta Bar Association November 2012 THE ATLANTA LAWYER 29
