Each year, the Georgia Center for the Book publishes its list of “Books All Georgians Should Read.” The list, which is designed to highlight and promote Georgia literature, includes books about Georgia or by Georgia authors. The Center solicits recommenda- tions from the public, librarians, authors, and publishing houses. An advisory committee then nar- rows down the selections. Here is the Georgia Center for the Book’s current list 1 : A Lillian Smith Reader by Lisa Hod- gens, Editor. Lillian Smith (1897 – 1966) was a writer and forward- thinking social critic. A Georgia native, Ms. Smith lived on Old Screamer Mountain overlooking Clayton, Georgia. She chronicled life in the 20th century American South, writing about racial and social inequalities.
