section update Women in the Profession Section Update By Laura C. Zschach Bodker Ramsey Andrews Winograd Wildstein I [email protected] t has been an amazing year for Women in the Profession. As the Bar year comes to an end and I reflect on the events and programs that WIP has provided to its members, I am honored to have had the opportunity to lead such extraordinary women over the past year and half. Judge Susan Edlein’s home, where we encouraged our attendees to bring grocery store gift cards that were donated to patients assisted by the Cancer Legal Project. WIP was pleased to provide $715 in grocery store gift cards for these patients. WIP has provided many opportunities to our members for networking, education and giving back to the community. January was a busy month because we co-hosted the annual Leader Within program with Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL), and we also co-hosted a Wine Tasting Event with the Sole Practitioner/Small Firm Section at the accounting firm of Habif Arogeti and Wynne. These events provided opportunities for our members to network with other sections and attorneys in a wide variety of practice areas. We began this Bar year in June by honoring Jessica J. Harper of Bodker Ramsey Andrews Winograd and Wildstein, PC with the Outstanding Woman in the Profession Achievement Award. All attending enjoyed the humor and wisdom provided by our honoree. Ms. Harper reminded all of us of the great honor we have in being attorneys. She encouraged us to take that honor seriously and use it for the benefit of others. In August, WIP hosted its annual Participation Social at Loca Luna. This proved to be a wonderful time of networking and fun. In September, we hosted a table for the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. We handed out candy and stickers, and we cheered for the walkers as they passed our table. This was a very inspiring community service event, and all of the walkers seemed to really appreciate the encouragement. In October, we continued with our annual pro bono training for Atlanta Legal Aid’s Cancer Legal Project. This is one of the highlights of our year and a program that I am so proud to endorse. WIP trains attorneys to provide intake sessions at Grady Hospital and DeKalb Medical Center for cancer patients. At these intake sessions, we evaluate the legal needs of patients and assist in providing legal services to those qualifying. In November, WIP hosted a Speed Networking Breakfast with the Atlanta Council of Younger Lawyers Section of the Atlanta Bar. This event was a new event for WIP, but very productive and fun for all the participants. It provided a unique opportunity for quick and efficient networking. This was followed in December by our annual Holiday Party at 24 THE ATLANTA LAWYER May 2012 We concluded the year with a Heart Program at Jackson Lewis, LLP in February, wherein our speaker encouraged women to be mindful of their heart. She reminded us that heart attacks and strokes can occur anytime, anywhere and at any age. We all left with the desire to incorporate salads and running a few miles into our daily routine! In April, our program focused on networking effectively. In this program, our panelists provided practical techniques on how to maximize our networking efforts. Additionally, WIP has co
