PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE

New Beginnings

A story has no beginning or end : arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back or from which to look ahead .” – Graham Greene , The End of the Affair .

So true . We routinely declare something the beginning or “ new .” The New Year . Fresh beginnings of Spring . A new case ( even though obviously there was something prior or else there would be no conflict now ). You will see a lot of “ new ” or “ beginnings ” in the coming months around the Atlanta Bar . Much discussion and work has been done to reevaluate the offerings of the Atlanta Bar , why we do what we do , whether we could do it better , and how to go about implementing these changes .
Later this month we will begin a new “ run ” with A Reception About Nothing - a return after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic . A Bar-wide event without a program , but not without a purpose , it allows members of our 23 Sections to mix and mingle , catch up with friends and colleagues , and to get to know people without interruption by a set program . A Reception About Nothing will be held on Thursday , April 28 , 2022 , from 5-7 p . m ., at Smith , Gambrell , & Russell LLP ’ s new office space in beautiful Midtown .

Next month , we try a new spin on an old event - the Annual Meeting will be a breakfast ! Join us for the first in-person Annual Meeting since 2019 ! Registration and mingling will begin at 7:30 a . m ., with the program beginning at 8 a . m ., at the Ansley Gold Club . While we hope you will be excited to come break bread with friends and colleagues in person , a virtual option is being offered for those who cannot attend in-person . Options for registration are available at on our events calendar at atlantabar . org .
Keep an eye out for more “ new ” and “ beginnings ” at the Atlanta Bar over the next few weeks .
“ It ’ s no use going back to yesterday , because I was a different person then .” – Alice , Lewis Carroll , Alice ’ s Adventures in Wonderland .
