As the facilitator , I try to ensure that the concept relates to personal and current experiences . Relating to the subject matter is critical to understanding and discussing this admittedly divisive topic . By sharing our experiences and our views in a respectful space , we learn from each other . Hopefully , the book club members allow these new understandings of “ how ” and “ why ” things are the way they are , to inform the way they move in the world , leading to more empathy and grace . We strive to be sensitive , respectful , and honest as we participate in these bi-weekly discussions . So far , it has been very successful .
There is another book club starting in April for “ Final Table ” by Dan Schorr . It is a fictional thriller that is very different from “ Caste ” and probably just as exciting . I am sure it will be just as interesting .
By sharing our experiences and our views in a respectful space , we learn from each other .
