March 1976 ABA Eases Ad Ban Over Georgia Objections Over the objections of the 10-man Georgia delegation and 98 others , a substitute lawyer advertising resolution was adopted at the midwinter meeting in Philadelphia . It was the first time in living memory that the Georgia delegation was unanimous on any issue .
March 1976 Volunteers to Aid Struggling Artists Struggling artists and arts groups can now get free legal help through the services of the newly organized Georgia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts , composed of Atlanta Bar members . More than 100 Atlanta area lawyers have volunteered their services to the project , reported GVLA President Robert C . Lower .

April 1997 Law Day ' 97 U . S . Rep . John Lewis will be a featured speaker at the Atlanta Bar Association ' s Law Day Luncheon . " With all the changes being discussed on Capitol Hill , the Atlanta Bar could not have selected a better speaker for the luncheon than Rep . Lewis ," said Natasha Perdew , chair of the Minority Liaison Committee which organized the luncheon .
April 1997 Some Laws are Created with Good Intentions Every year the State Legislature meets and passes new laws . This is great for legal publishers , for rarely do these elected representatives repeal laws , and the compilations of Georgia statutes are sold by the pound . Consider that in Georgia it is legal for an itinerant coal dealer to sell coal unless the weight of said coal is determined by a certified public weigher . And while it is legal for theaters to show movies on a day , it is only legal so long as ( 1 ) they have a permit from either the city or county and ( 2 ) at least once monthly they show a religious or inspirational film . But the willingness to enact stupid laws and the reluctance to uphold the code is not limited to the individuals that meets under the gold dome .
