What is the range of your previous legal experience and how has it prepared you for your new role as a Magistrate Judge ?
Judge Locke : My first lawyer job was at the Fulton County Public Defender ’ s Office , then I practiced insurance defense at a firm for a short time , and then I opened my own criminal defense firm . Over the past eight years , my practice has shifted to personal injury and criminal appeals .
The best preparation has been representing real people . After representing people as a lawyer , later as a judge you understand the stakes in each dispute and feel the weight of your decisions . Knowing my decisions can change lives motivates me to try as hard as I can to get each decision right .
