T
he Atlanta Council of Younger Lawyers 2010 Associates’
Campaign for Legal Services raised over $32,000 for
eleven legal services organizations serving the needs
of low-income Georgians. The annual Campaign aims both to
increase younger lawyers’ awareness of the need for pro bono
legal representation and to raise needed funds for legal services.
The Campaign, which is the ACYL’s largest fundraising project,
reaches out to associates in law firms throughout the Atlanta
area.
The 2010 Associates’ Campaign was headed by Charles Hooker,
of Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, and Kristin Zielmanski, of Berman
Fink Van Horn P.C. In addition, associates from 26 law firms
donated funds to the 2010 Campaign. Eleven of those firms
generously agreed to provide some form of matching funds for
their associates’ contributions. Those firms were as follows:
Bondurant Mixson & Elmore, Butler Wooten & Fryhofer,
Duane Morris, Fellows LaBriola, Holland & Knight, Hunton
& Williams, King & Spalding, Kutak Rock, Morris Manning
& Martin, Smith Gambrell & Russell and Sutherland Asbill
& Brennan.
Among firms with over 100 associates, King & Spalding raised
the most total dollars. Among firms with 25 to 99 lawyers,
Morris, Manning & Martin raised the most total dollars. Holland
& Knight raised the most money among smaller firms.
The Associates’ Campaign for Legal Services began in 2000
as an independent, grass-roots effort, and has raised over
$450,000 since its inception. It has been an ACYL project since
2005. The organizations benefiting from the 2010 Campaign
included Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers
Foundation, Georgia Justice Project, Georgia Law Center for the
Homeless, Georgia Legal Services Program, Georgia Resource
Center, Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, GreenLaw, ProBono
