Ideally this should be asked in the interview , if you occasionally find yourself in a courtroom arguing a case . Some attorneys never try cases , of course , and if your paralegal has worked for one of those attorneys it may need to be discussed . I had been a paralegal for more than four years before I was ever asked to get a case ready to try , and I had a steep learning curve when a case did not settle just a few days before the trial was due to start .
In general , the more your paralegal feels like a valued team member whom you care about on a personal level , the more likely they will want to stay employed by your firm .
