Among other things , my mentor introduced me to the Atlanta Bar Litigation Section breakfast meetings . What a tremendous opportunity to learn , and to meet lawyers and judges who continue to help me more than 30 years later . Involvement in the Atlanta Bar Foundation was a natural progression . If you love the Atlanta Bar Association , as I do , or if you are first becoming involved , you will also want to get involved with the Foundation . The more you help and serve the Bar and the Foundation , the more they will help and serve you .

We could call this the “ Year of Making Up For Lost Time .”
In March 2020 , when we were all shutting down as a result of the pandemic , I was half of the way into my term as Chair of the Litigation Section . Missing half the year was a source of great frustration . No less so , I am sure for all of us , including all of the Section leaders and for the Atlanta Bar Foundation . I , for one , really hope for an uninterrupted year this year … and going forward .
I am excited to start my term as President of our Atlanta Bar Foundation . I am humbled , proud and very much looking forward to this new opportunity to serve our community . When I began practicing law , I was fortunate to have an excellent mentor .
For those of you toiling away hoping to make partner or hoping to one day start your own practice , I invite you to think about a time when you are responsible to generate business and clients . You will have competition . How will you distinguish yourself ? One way is by pointing out your involvement in the Atlanta Bar Association and Foundation . You will be able to point to your own vast network of relationships . When clients ask if you know the Judge and the other lawyer , you will . These things matter .
What is the Atlanta Bar Foundation ? The Foundation , as the charitable arm of the Atlanta Bar Association , supports projects that promote equal access to justice , youth development programs and public understanding of the law . This includes the Atlanta Bar Association ’ s Minority & Diversity Clerkship Program and Summer Law Internship Program . In addition , the Foundation is proud to have provided grants totaling more than $ 1.6 million to numerous worthy recipients . Previous grant beneficiaries include Atlanta Bar youth programs as well as organizations that the Atlanta Bar helped to establish , such as Atlanta Legal Aid Society , Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation , Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network , and the Truancy Intervention Project .
