section update Judicial Section By The Hon. Sara Doyle Georgia Court of Appeals O n April 30, the Judicial Section capped its year off with its annual award ceremony and luncheon. Chief Judge Myra Dixon of the State Court of Fulton County was honored with the section’s Romae Turner Powell Award for Judicial Excellence. It was a well-attended event co-sponsored for the first time by the Litigation and Family Law Sections. In addition to the award ceremony, the attendees were entertained by the singing of Elizabeth Story, an attorney at Pursley, Friese and Torgrimson and a star of this year’s Courthouse Line XI: A North Side Story. We also were excited to have in attendance, Romae Turner Powell’s daughter and son, Rometta and Clayton Powell. September, 2014. We were able to sponsor numerous other Atlanta Bar events throughout the year, as well as hold two casual lunch meetings in October and March for our Section members. Our mid-year membership drive added numerous new judges to the Section and we look forward to another great year under the leadership of our new chair, Judge Chris McFadden. The 2015-2016 Atlanta Bar Association Judicial Section board of directors include: Chair Hon. Christopher J. McFadden, Vice Chair/Chair-Elect Hon. Maria B. Golick, Secretary/ Treasurer Hon. Lovett Jr. This year was a good one for the Section. Working with the National Association of Women Judges, we brought a Constitution Day program to Therrell High School in Find people worthy of the name on the door. That was my mentor’s advice. But the landscape has changed over the last few years. Profits are harder earned and have to be more wisely spent.
