SECTION UPDATES MEMBERSHIP WOMEN IN THE PROFESSION The Atlanta Bar Association’s Women in the Profession (WIP) Section is dedicated to furthering the practice and perception of law, with a focus on issues unique to women in the practice. WIP hosts networking events during which women lawyers can interact and develop support systems. WIP also organizes continuing education courses, community service opportunities, and other substantive programs. Here is a look at WIP events in 2020: - On January 22, WIP is co-hosting a networking social along with the Atlanta Bar Public Interest and Atlanta Council of Younger Lawyers sections. The event will take place at Ri Ra’s in Midtown, starting at 5:30PM. Guests will enjoy food, drinks, a fun photo booth, and a chance to win tickets to an Atlanta Hawks game. - Next month, WIP is planning a CLE program on the effects of Model Rule 8.4(g). The rule, adopted by the ABA in 2016, has deeply divided states over its propriety. The CLE will focus on the application of Model Rule 8.4(g) to professional conduct, especially concerning the “religious liberty” argument. WIP is partnering with the Stonewall Bar Association for this event. Stay tuned for more details! - Later this board year, be on the lookout for another opportunity to collaborate with WIP on our community service project with the Library of Congress. WIP is working on the Suffrage: Women Fight for the Vote project as virtual volunteers. We are digitally transcribing the personal papers of such icons as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. This project coincides with the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. Follow WIP on Facebook @AtlantaBarWIP, on Twitter @AtlantaBar using #WIP, or on LinkedIn at “Atlanta Bar Women in the Profession Section.” Membership in WIP is open to all legal professionals, in all age groups and career stages.
