I would love to travel back in time to have dinner with my maternal grandmother . I don ’ t have independent memories of her as she died when I was very young . My great grandmother raised my mother but my understanding is that my grandmother pursued a career and education while my great grandmother raised my mom . I would love to have dinner with my maternal grandmother , with the information I now know about life , sex , and race in America , to find out how she was able to accomplish what she did as a black woman in a small black community where her rights were barely recognized . My grandmother acquired land that my family still owns to this day , she owned a local community store , while going to school to become a nurse . I have such little information about her , yet my great grandmother told me when I was a child how much I reminded her of my grandmother . To have dinner with her just to hear her share her experiences would be absolutely enlightening .
Can I say myself at 16 so that I can impart the hard-earned wisdom of my years ?
