Community Service Project
The Bankruptcy Section partnered with the Atlanta Children ’ s Shelter to present its latest community service project to fulfill their uniform wish list . Thank you for supporting this wonderful organization by purchasing a uniform or two off their wish list .
SubV Panel CLE and Cocktail Reception
The Bankruptcy Section recently sponsored a fabulous event entitled , “ How to Plan and Prosecute a Subchapter V Case and Look Like You Know What You Are Doing ”, held November 15th at the Richard B . Russell Federal Building Courthouse . An esteemed panel comprised of Hon . Paul Bonapfel ; Jeneane Treace ( Assistant United States Trustee ), Todd Hennings ( Chapter 11 Trustee ), and Robert Matson ( Chapter 11 Trustee ), presented an updated version of their 2020 three-part virtual series by the same name . The panelists spoke to a packed room , sharing their respective views from the bench , trustee panel and U . S . Trustee ’ s Office , which was invaluable to practitioners . The presentation was followed by a reception in the courthouse , allowing all to catch up with one another and to reflect on the wonderful presentation .
Holiday Social
The Bankruptcy Section teamed up with Metro Atlanta Consumer Bankruptcy Attorney Group ( MACBAG ) to celebrate the season on December 7 , 2022 at the long-established French favorite , Petite Violette . The party presented an opportunity for the two groups to mix and mingle while enjoying an array of tasty appetizers and treats . Quel magnifique soirée !

Litigation Section
What a year ! The Litigation Section closed 2022 with a vibrant series of social , community , and educational events with recordbreaking attendance . As we embrace the holiday season and look forward to 2023 , we express gratitude for the fellowship and support of the leadership team , members , and guests from the Atlanta Bar community !
On October 27 , 2022 , the Litigation , Bankruptcy , and Estate Planning & Probate Sections hosted a Joint Fall Social at New Realm Brewery . The happy hour was a huge success , bringing together practitioners whose paths may not otherwise cross . We can ’ t wait for what the Activities Committee has in store for the spring ! Only days later , on November 1 , 2022 , the Section and its volunteers packed 500 weekend meals for children in need and collected hundreds of children ' s books as part of a Brown Bag & Book Drive to benefit Blessings in a Backpack , hosted by King & Spalding and organized by the Community Service Committee .
Rounding out a packed week , on November 4 , 2022 , dynamic duo M . J . Blakely ( Pope McGlamry ) and Lee Peifer ( Eversheds Sutherland ) moderated the Section ’ s monthly breakfast meeting before over 100 attendees , discussing “ Trying and Handling Bet- The-Company Litigation ." The program featured legal titans David Balser ( King & Spalding ), Clay Barnett ( Beasley Allen ), Andy Childers ( Childers Schlueter & Smith ), Sean Jessee ( Greenberg Traurig ), and Rebecca Woods ( Seyfarth Shaw ), who gave the audience an invaluable peek into their strategy in counseling clients and advancing to resolution some of the nation ’ s highest profile matters , such as infant formula multi-district product liability litigation and a major automobile manufacturer engine defect class action .
Finally , on December 2 , 2022 , Thomas Bosch ( SEC ), Uchenna Ekuma-Nkama ( Dentons ), Kurt Erksine ( Polsinelli ), and Emily Ward ( Smith Gambrell ) dazzled a packed house with tales and tips during “ Turning Up the Heat : Reemergence of White Collar & Environmental Investigations and Litigation ,” the Section ’ s final breakfast meeting of the year moderated by Tiffany Nichols Bracewell ( Troutman Pepper ). Via rapid fire , the panelists addressed numerous facets of the Department of Justice ’ s and the Securities & Exchange Commission ’ s broad enforcement agenda and hot buttons — from crypto and WhatsApp to environmental justice .
